About to do a yoga class for the first time in maybe 12 years? And even back then I was as inflexible as hell & found it really hard. This is going to be a nightmare!

OK, not happy with tonight’s session. Wasn’t really feeling it 😦

Bench press: 20kg, 10 reps x 2

Bench press to 3 boards: 40kg x 3; 45kg x 3; 47.5kg x 3; 50kg x 3; 52.5kg x 1

I was meant to do the same weight I pressed to 4 boards last week – 57.5kg. I tried 55kg twice & failed both. Not very happy with myself. 

Incline dumbbell bench press, palms facing: 10.5kg, 10 reps x 3

JM press: 25kg, 10 reps x 3

Tate press: 6kg dumbbells, 10 reps x 3

Seated shoulder press: 10kg, 5 reps; 10.5kg, 5 reps x 2; 12.5kg, 2 reps

Hammer curls: 7kg, 10 reps x 3

Lateral pulldowns (light): 25kg, 12 reps; 30kg, 12 reps

Decline crunch: 10 reps x 3

Landmines: 20kg bar, 7 reps x 3




As soon as I stepped through the doors onto the train, this woman let out an audible “tsk” of disgust and rolled her eyes. I get this quite a bit for some reason from thin women who I can only presume find my unapologetic nature instantaneously threatening/infuriating. Their attempts to put me in my place are almost parodies of themselves and generally consist of dramatic eye-rolls, increasingly audible huffs and sighs, and noticeable head-shaking. I sat down directly across from this particular woman as this section of the train is generally more comfortable for me. I pulled out my phone to check my email, but felt her eyes on me. I looked up and challenged her to keep her eyes to herself with a pointed glance and a raised eyebrow. She smirked and looked away. I went back to my phone and felt her eyes on me again. This time rather than looking up, I switched on the camera of my phone and observed her through the lens. She pulled out her makeup and began applying it, all the while looking my body up and down with the look on her face that you see in this photo. She didn’t take her eyes off me for a good five minutes. I snapped this photo after a while, not exactly sure what I intended to do with – more just needing to prove to myself that this kind of thing wasn’t entirely in my mind.  I love how most of the ‘disgust’ happens in the context of public transit in relation to how much ‘room’ I take up, and yet she is spread across two seats without a care in the world.

Well, she looks so content with her own life- I can’t imagine why she’d feel the need to try and shit on anyone else. ((sarcasm))

Skinny people talk so much shit about fat people taking up space yet LOOK HOW MUCH SPACE SHE IS TAKING UP.

OK so, I caught up with the betterthanweakness controversy thingy. I realise that I’m a grandma* in Tumblr terms and therefore my opinion probably won’t matter much; but I’m a web drama veteran** and I wanted to say this:

Internet drama feels like it matters so much while it’s happening. It really does, I remember how it felt (and still feels occasionally). But in the long run? It seriously doesn’t matter. I swear. Take it from an old fart like me. One day you will look back on all this and laugh. 

* OK, maybe I’m not old enough to be your grandma, but I’m definitely old enough to be the mother of some of you. Yikes.

Sally Moss is running her beginners’ Olympic lifting course in London again in June. I did this course in April-May and loved it – I learned all the basics for snatch and clean & jerk, and am now confident doing them in the gym on my own.

I got up early today to work out at Urban Kings before work!! Seriously, this never happens (mostly because Bethnal Green is only open evenings).

Snatch drills, all with a technique bar + 10kg (so 15-17kg??), all 5 reps x 2

Lift to knees, then overhead squat

Pull & bounce, then snatch balance

High pull, then snatch from the high hang

Full snatch

Clean, then jerk (not together)

Front squats: 20kg, 5 reps; 30kg, 5 reps x 3

Lots of stretching & mobility work

Feeling good today!! I know I said I probably wouldn’t work out much this week due to the house & DIY etc, but I was really keen to get back in the gym & snatch. 



I know this isn’t from the manufacturer, but I thought this was ridiculous.

I found this in the winter 2013 edition of Brides magazine, which I’d bought before my fiancé proposed.  I never went through it properly until today.  How are you supposed to “celebrate your curves” in a garment that shrinks and defines your waist?
